Clayton, a trained tree risk assessor with over 20 years of experience in visual tree assessment (VTA). Clayton is trained in interpreting the art of tree body language to identify potential risks and hazards in trees. He is also trained in the use of current decay detection tools such as micro resistance drill and sonic tomography for advanced tree assessment to detect internal structural anomalies.

Our Services

1. Visual Tree Assessment (VTA Method)
Our certified arborists apply the Visual Tree Assessment (VTA) method developed by Claus Mattheck to identify external indicators of internal structural defects. This scientifically grounded approach focuses on recognizing biomechanical adaptations and symptoms—such as bulges, cracks —that may signal hidden decay or instability. The VTA forms the foundation of our risk evaluation and guides the decision-making process for tree retention, mitigation, or removal.

2. Advanced Tree Diagnostics
We employ advanced non-invasive diagnostic tools to assess internal wood conditions and structural integrity. These include the Micro drill (IML RESI PD400) which measures drilling resistance to detect internal decay, cavities, and cracks, and the Sonic Tomograph (PICUS 3), which maps variations in sound wave transmission to identify decay and hollow areas in cross-sectional planes. These technologies enhance the accuracy of our structural assessments and support defensible recommendations for tree management.

3. Construction Impact Assessment
Our service evaluates the potential impact of proposed developments on surrounding trees, in compliance with local regulations and industry best practices. The assessment includes determining tree retention feasibility, calculating required protection distances (e.g., Tree Protection Zones), and proposing mitigation strategies to minimize disturbance to significant trees. Recommendations are based on tree health, structure, species characteristics, and the construction footprint.

4. Tree Monitoring During Construction
We provide ongoing tree monitoring throughout construction phases to ensure compliance with protection guidelines and minimize unintentional damage to retained trees. Regular inspections are documented, and adaptive recommendations are made to preserve tree health and stability as site conditions evolve.
